New & complete hiragana table is finally here!

In 2012, when I was a year 8 student, I designed the Hiragana table as my Community and Service activity. Surprisingly, it became the most popular content on this blog, and it’s even on the front page of Google Images when you google “hiragana table”!

But as I see it now, I thought I can do better, and I can create a complete one that has characters with contracted sound and voiced sound as well as those with unvoiced sound.

My design intent has been to create a hiragana table that is easy to understand for people who are learning Japanese, and that makes it easier to read, say, write, and enjoy learning Japanese. It is a three-page A3 poster that you can print out and stick on the wall.

Of course, there are heaps of hiragana tables already available online, but many of them are either tasteless (black and white, looking so serious) or colourful for no reason (many of Japanese ones designed for kids). I aimed to design the table that has a clear hierarchy of information, colours for the stroke order, easy words to practice pronunciation, and some illustrations to help learners memorise and remember characters.
